Incorporating a diversity of perspectives improves the quality of the built environment, and we are committed to advancing diversity and maximizing opportunities for underrepresented communities in all of our projects. These efforts include setting diversity goals in our development activities and encouraging our partners to do the same, investing in under-resourced communities, and proactively working to attract, develop, and retain team members with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

80% of young people who age out of foster care in Tennessee will experience homelessness, incarceration, addiction, or trafficking by age 21. One of the biggest reasons? A lack of safe, stable, and affordable housing.

This reality has inspired a pivotal new chapter for Elmington and Elevates. What began years ago as a calling to build affordable housing has now become a responsibility to directly address the needs of some of Tennessee’s most vulnerable youth.

We are proud to announce Lumen Flats, our new foster care housing community in Knoxville. Designed for young adults aging out of foster care, Lumen Flats will provide:

    • Stable housing in 18 studio apartments, each with a kitchenette and private bathroom.
    • Access to mental health support, including on-site therapy rooms.
    • Community and connection, through a large shared kitchen, common living areas, and the presence of caring adult relationships.

SALAMA URBAN MINISTRIES

AT HILLSIDE FLATS IN NASHVILLE, TN

Through a joint venture partnership with Salama, we built a 10,000 sq ft office and program space.

Salama is a faith-based, youth development organization committed to improving each child’s life trajectory through academic enrichment, performing arts, and character development.

AMAZON HOUSING EQUITY FUND

Elmington received an $18.8 million loan from the Amazon Housing Equity Fund for the construction of Harpeth Valley Apartments, a garden-style, 251-unit, affordable housing development to be completed in 2024 in Nashville, TN. 

Amazon’s fund is minority-opportunity-focused and centered around creating inclusive solutions to the affordable housing crisis, which disproportionately affects communities of color.
